Varanus reisingeri

Jon43 Jun 19, 2005 09:28 AM

Just received 2.2 V. reisingeri. They are an outrageous lemon/lime color when cool and turn more yellow when fully warmed up. One male weighs 160 grams the other male weighs 158 grams. The two females weigh 138 grams and 150 grams. They are not nervous, nor do they act afraid or skittish as you see in wild V. prasinus. I can reach inside a cage and grab anyone without them opening their mouth and hissing as is typical of wild caught tree monitors. They have not tried to bite as of yet. I keep each pair in a cage made of plastic pegboard and PVC pipe. They crawl over the cage using the pegboard holes. Their is a 6 foot ficus tree and a vine in each cage along with a 120 watt flood light for their hot spot and a wicker tube (filled half-way with moist sagnum moss) for a hideout. They are kept in my reptile room which has its own furnace to supply a temperature between 77 and 81 degrees F. Each cage is 6'Tall, 4' Long and 3' Deep. Right now I mist in the morning and evening until I set up the misting system I received.

Congratulations, I wasn't aware of anymore being kept privately other then Manfred Reisinger. Good luck with any potential breeding and look forward to seeing some pics

Thanks James.

I will post some photos in the near future of the V. reisigeri. Right now I am at the stage of medicating them with flagyl and panacure.
