safety running loose in house...

denise1 Jun 19, 2005 11:54 AM

we let Smaug out of his tank yesterday...basically I have stiff, metal mesh squares that join together into a kind of playpen...well Smaug wasn't out long before he started climbing the side...didn't think he'd be relaxed enough to do that for a while, so tonight I'll just block off the kitchen, etc...has anyone had their beardies crawl beneath their couches???that's the one thing I worry about since I may not be able to wait for him to crawl back out on his own...and worry about possible injury if we had to move the couch to get him out...

I have had Feng all over the house, and she's tried to get everywhere, in my computer(side was oof for repairs) and behind chairs, and climb up the wires to the TV. unless she's sleeping or basking, i don't let her out of my sight!

I let my two run around the house when I watch them. Merlin, my girl doesn't like to go to far away from me anymore since she knows the boundries now but Marvin my little boy still likes to test me when he's out so I have to keep a really close eye on him when he's out to keep him from taking off and getting behind something so it really depends on the beardies personality as to wether you have to watch them closely or not. Yes I know Merlin is a strange name for a girl but she was named when I got her and she doesn't want it changed lol.

Thought I lost my bearded dragon not long after I bought her, found her clinging to the side of my couch, where the sun's rays was hitting it. At other times, she has tried to get under my couch but couldn't (there is only about a 1/4" clearance and at the time, she was too big to get under there). She would always get under my tv stand, and I had to dig her out from the piles of wires. Started climbing the stairs one other time...you deffinitely have to keep an eye on them always, when they are loose. Sectioning off a 'playpen' is a good thing to do, just use something they can't climb.

as my little signature thingy says at the bottom. I used to let mine out all the time. Now that i have a cat, i don't anymore. my male indie, had two dark and hard to reach places that he would run to and SLEEP there. he'd sleep there for three days if i didn't pick him up and put him away. my girl aphrodite will run out of her cage do a couple laps around the house, then go straight back in her cage. I've had them go under the couch, but they realise that i can move the couch pretty easily. try moving your refridgerator or stove.

the only advise i have is, if you let your dragons go free range, make sure you vacuum. if you don't vacuum your dragons will do it for you.
