Super pastel breed to Super pastel makes ?

jimfmcdonald Jun 19, 2005 03:50 PM

so a pastel to pastel makes Super pastels, then what do you get from a pastel to a super pastel? and a Super pastel to a Super pastel? also I am getting my first male pastel and plan to breed him to my normal females next year, so will I get some pastels and some normals from it? thanks.

wouldnt all supers be better then just half and half? so why does jyohe say its a waste?

djdpython Jun 19, 2005 04:21 PM

you would breed each super to a pastel and come up with the same amount of supers but you would also generate x amount of pastels at the same time - more of a good thing if you use both supers seperate. --- all of this is how it should work but mother natures sometimes throws a curve ball.

rwoodyer Jun 19, 2005 04:23 PM

yeah or if you had half a brain you would breed them to a spider and get 50% bumblebees 50% pastels

FerrisBueler Jun 19, 2005 05:03 PM

What about if you breed a homo Spider (super) to a Super Pastel?

Het Spider x Homo Pastel - BumbleBees and Pastels
Homo Spider x Homo Pastel?

Ryan

rwoodyer Jun 19, 2005 09:14 PM

Unfortunately homozygous spiders don't exist (to the best of my knowledge). Everytime someone thinks they have one, a normal pops out in the next clutch. Most likely, the homozygous form of spider is leathal, just my opinion.

FerrisBueler Jun 19, 2005 10:43 PM

Garrick DeMeyer said he got a possible homo spider for Kevin at NERD. He bred it to a pastel and got .2 BumbleBee, 2.1 Spider, and 1 normal. Doesn't mean that it WAS homo spider...he coulda just gotten a spidey clutch. But y'never know.

Ryan

FerrisBueler Jun 20, 2005 12:03 AM

Wait wait. I just caught myself...If it WERE a homo spider, there wouldn't be a normal in there now, huh?

Lol...I still think they exist though.

would it not be that a super to a spider....

all would be pastel (and 25% would be spider also..).....

so.........theory says at most 25% would be bumblebees?....

25% bees and the rest pastel......?

.....but yes..it's all pecentages.........one guy would get 8 bees from 10 eggs and another guy would get 1 bee from 10 eggs..........

anyways..........

............also.if we all bred super to super the gene pool would get crappier and crappier.......

better to breed supers to other stuff or non-related stuff to imporve the gene pool for awhile.......

yes...I would breed supers to pastels..........just other lines.....

Super x Spider:

50% Bumble Bees
50% Pastels

(All offspring would be Pastel, and half would be Spider as well.)

that he wanted to know why not breed super to super - supers have been around long enough that if there was something ' more ' we would have seen by know. and like all of you are saying dont waste a super on a super when you can use it in a dozen other combos. a clutch of all supers would be cool but with 2 supers - one to a pastel and one to a spider, pin, etc you could get so much more !!! just my opinion.

gant77 Jun 19, 2005 11:25 PM

Pastel x Spider= BumbleBee Spider
Super Pastel x Spider= KillerBee Spider

RandyRemington Jun 20, 2005 06:41 AM

For some reason you can't use the plus symbol on this forum.

Generally "X" is used to denote a pairing as in breeding a spider to a pastel as "spider X pastel". I think you are talking about an individual snake that has both the spider and pastel genes at the same time which would be called a bumblebee and could be written "spider (plus symbol) pastel". While spider X pastel would produce eggs each with a 25% chance of being bumblebees (spider “plus symbol” pastel) you would get no killer bees (super pastel "plus symbol" spider) from super pastel X spider (only 50/50 chance bumblebees and pastels).

Paul Hollander Jun 20, 2005 10:53 AM

A plus symbol is not a good idea for "and". Because the plus symbol is the commonly used symbol for a wild type allele. In my opinion, either a comma, or (preferably) no punctuation at all would be better than using a plus sign to signify a combination of independent mutants. So a bumblebe would be either a pastel, spider or a pastel spider.

By the way, it is possible to use a plus sign on these forums, but the only way I've found is to use HTML code with the ASCII number. And even then, it has to be retyped between a preview of the post and final posting.

Sorry! I couldn't think of what else to use. I am a horse person as well, I got to used to "their" symbols
Looks like I need to get some glasses too.

I've never heard of anyone breeding two superpastels together. The reason being like Jeffrey said, a waste of a superpastel, since everyone assumes that you would get all superpastels. A lot of people think this is a waste due to the fact that you couldn't then use the female super to create combination morphs (which I believe is what most people who have female supers are using them for).

Personally, I'd like to see someone start breeding supers together. Most likely you would get all superpastels just like everyone expects, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Not all pastels are created equal. I've seen some 'supers' that barely looked better then a regular pastel. How can you improve the morph if you aren't selectively breeding the best looking ones? And how can you hold back the best looking ones for future breeders if you don't have a good sized number to select from?

It will happen eventually I'm sure, but right now anyone with a superpastel is chasing the 'quick' money or trying to make a name for themselves by being the first to create a new designer using pastel genes.

I think that is a key project that I will attemp in the future simply because I would eventually like to replace all my pastels with Supers. This will double your pastel production and speed up your designer projects significantly. Did you guys not read Jeremy Stone's two page post about his Axanthic X Super Pastel breeding? lol

So no... you are not missing something... Jeff is just nuts.

Super Pastels are GOLDEN BABY!
