Most gravid snakes will not eat when they're so close to laying, but some do. Most people I know do not offer food at this time. I think many keepers wait until several hours after they drop their clutch and then offer food. If they do not want it that day they usually eat 24-48 hours after. I hope you have a nest box in with her because she is going to drop those eggs soon, maybe even less than a week. If you have the water bowl in the cage you should also remove it, or she may lay her eggs in it. Tom Stevens

My Pueblans generally lay their eggs 10 days after their pre-egglaying shed. Most snakes won't eat between the time of their pre-egglaying shed and actual egglaying.

Please let us know if you produce any Oreos, as it appears to be a random thing instead of something easily reproduced. Thanks Tom Stevens

Will do Tom,

I only have one good egg from my oreo male bred back to its oreo mom. That egg is due to hatch in mid-July. The female is in her pre-egglaying shed for her second clutch - hopefully I'll have better fertility with that one.

The same male was bred back to one of its perfectly banded siblings. There are three eggs from that breeding due to hatch in late July.

I'll be posting photos - hopefully we can get to the bottom of this "oreo thing."

Tim
