Whats best is, you learn(get experience) with beardeds or colubrids. The truth about hatching monitor eggs is, its no different then hatching other reptile eggs, just takes longer then most.
About temps and substrates, a whole range works best, once you know how to use them. In other words, your personal conditions and experience predicts what is best, not a single method.
The base method for most reptile eggs is, either perlite or vermiculite, one to one by weight with water. Temps from the mid seventies to the mid eighties, but there is still room for error. The rest is all about you. Ask around you will see. Those who are best at hatching eggs already knew how.
The real problem with monitors is, getting eggs that have the possibility to hatch, that is, healthy eggs. FR
