injured gecko

This gecko has a huge open sore on the leg near the joint of one of the back legs. I put polysporin on the leg twice a day. Any ideas on what could've caused it because there is nothing rough or sharp in the enclosure.

He could have done it to himself, maby trying to catch a cricket or when shedding. A large cricket could have but a hole in him.

I don't know if that med is good for small animals. There have been cases in witch the leo died from the meds. Maby to strong.
