coughing/gurgling

heidijean3 Jun 20, 2005 02:34 PM

My bearded is abotu 9 months old. recently he started making this strange sound, kinda like a cough or gurgle. I took him right to the vet. Vet said he's in great health and since he would not make the sounds while there he said he sees nothign wrong with him. He is still doing this and now not eating much, although he just shed his head so hoping that's why he's not eating. Anyone familiar with this sound and what it might be?
Thanks.

It sounds like an uper respitory infection, it could also be pin worms. You need to find a better vet, have a fecal and blood work done. Coughing is not normal, something is wrong. Oh one more thing it could be, do you keep him on dusty sand? could be caused from dust or allergies but if its allergies he should also have red water eyes.

thanks, I've set up an appointment with another vet. Sure hope this one knows more than the last one.

I agree, coughing is definitely not normal. A vet trip will find out if he has any respiratory problems.

Mine "huffs" when he doesn't get his way, which is pretty weird. If I pick him up and move him from somewhere he was previously occupying, he'll suck in a bit of air and literally "huff" it back out of his mouth, almost like a little kid that is losing patience. Any other time he won't do it, only when I mess with him, like moving him from my shoulder when he doesn't want to get down, not allowing him to run on the floor or in the backyard, etc. Since he doesn't flare out his beard at me, I think it's his way of expressing himself.

My beardie does the huffing/hissing type noises when i make her mad too!

Make sure the vet you go to is a qualified herp vet, the best ones are ones that only see exotics, usually vets that see dogs and cats and everything else tend to know only a little bit about the exotics. A good vet should be able to help you out. Bring a fecal sample with you.

Are you seeing any discharge from the nose or mouth or eyes?
Any bubbling?
What are your temps?

Good luck!!!
