Theory about sexing Uroplatus pietschmanni based on color/pattern

Mad_1234 Jun 20, 2005 02:57 PM

Well there have been several disscussions about sexing different species of Uroplatus based on color and pattern and since then I have been looking for any differences in my U. pietschmanni and other photos on the interent. One thing I noticed was that males have a dark mark between or slightly below the eyes where has females have no mark or only a very slight one. Anyone else seen this?
Here is a picture of my male.

its hard to tell on those of mine sleeping right now, but i see it on my recently deceased female.

i think the tail is a possible factor though, notice the males have skinnier tails than the females, seems like the notches between undulations on the tail go deeper on males as well.

I can see the "head-mark" on this male i had earlier. It not as good as you rpictures but you can see the dark mark clearly
