So, when do Baird's get their full color???

LloydHeilbrunn Jun 20, 2005 04:09 PM

Went to a local Sat. show and a dealer had a Baird's, first I've ever seen for sale locally. I thought it was not very colorful and not metallic at all compared to many posted here.

I asked the dealer how old it was and if he thought it had developed as much of its adult color as it was going to.He said it was 2 years old, but had not completly changed.I thought this sounded pretty old not to have adult colors. So what is normal?? Was the dealer right, or was it just a poorly colored and nonmetallic adult, since I understand it is somewhat variable? Thanks.

A 2 year old baird should have some signs of what it will look like as an adult. Some of the more metallic looking bairds take a little longer to color up but when they do LOOK OUT.
As for when they color up my 04 is showing some nice color right now.My male is between 5-6 years old and very colorful. My 4 year old female looks better every shed. When
When you do decide to buy a bairds ask for pictures of the parents.that should give you something to go on..Paul

I'm starting to see the oranges and yellows in my little yearling. Not a lot, but hints of things to come. He's my only Bairds & I'm really enjoying him. Still rattles that little tail of his, but otherwise calm and easy. Duffy

Or maybe two different locales? I maybe wrong but I thought I read about it somehwere on this forum.

I would think that seeing the parents or knowing the strain of the bairdi your are purchasing is important.
