Has anyone ever used steel containers...?

Piebaldpython Jun 20, 2005 04:50 PM

Hi Everyone,

This question kind of goes with a thread below. I am setting up a rack for rats and don't want the chewed containers. I have access to a press brake and can bend up stainless steel boxes of any size. Has anyone ever used this setup before. I would use carpenter's mesh on the top for feeding and ventilation. Need to weight some pros and cons.

Thx for looking,
Dave

I have, and I gave them up pretty quickly. Large black tubs only cost $8 from home depot and I've only lost 2 out of 9 in 4 months. So for the money and the weight I went back to plastic.

Seems like it would be a whole lot of unnecessary work. If the rack is built correctly, chewing on the plastic tubs shouldn't be a problem.

I would agree, i built my rack in jan. using the home depot concrete mixing bins and they have not even begun to chew on them yet? And there are 8 bins.

Urine is very corrosive. Unless you want to use stainless or have alot of scrap around....
I used motar tubs from home depot with tops made out of 1/2 inch hardware cloth on a 1"X2" pine frame.

Demak,
That is the formula you gave me earlier in the year and it has worked flawlessly!
Thanks Jim
