Result of yearling bite

Here's the before/after shots (no, I didn't plan on getting bit) Instead of your typical quick strike, she latched on to my hand and really sunk her teeth into me. Despite that, I still barely felt it (possibly thanx to the glove, but still). What they say is true, it's mostly the shock factor.

that means she smelled food. That looks like a gardening glove, I wouldn't wear it to handle the snake. Get yourself some disposable latex gloves. Snakes apparently don't like the taste of those, so they tend not to bite as much.

There are two basic types of bites - feeding and defense. A defensive bite would be just a quick snap and let go and get away. A feeding strike is what you got. Lose the gloves. and make sure you wash your hands before handling, of course

personaly, I think if you need gloves to handle an animal, you shouldnt be handleing that animal...

Lose the gloves, and it will be safer for both you and the snake.

I know how snakes usually bite...but the breeder even told me when I bought her she's a latcher. For whatever reason, when she bites you, she really likes to sink her teeth in...just how she is.

AGREED!!! If you feel the need to glove up to handle that little snake, you're in the wrong hobby, my friend. If it were an ETB, well.....maybe. But, posting a pict of a barely visible puncture, c'mon!! A herper can't be afraid to take a bite. Get yourself an Amythistine & you'll get used to it after awhile.

1) The gloves are used just as a precaution. I'm not afraid of getting bit, but I'm not stupid either. If that was what happened through the glove.... Also, the gloves are more used to conceal the heat and smell of my hands.

2)I knew when I bought her she was aggressive and prone to biting, so I knew when I handled her I was going to get bit. It was simply I didn't have removable perches at the time so I had no choice but to handle her if I needed to do something to her home.

3) I posted the pictures simply as a referance for all those newbs who keep coming on asking what a chondro bite is like.

And that's cool! If I had any sense I'd probably wear them too. Sorry if I seemed judgemental. 40 years in the herp hobby has made me somewhat bite-numb. The important thing is that you are a herper. Take care!

Lose the gloves and buy yourself a decent set of hemostats. Bites are no big wup. If you are that concerned about it you might want to change hobbies. If you want to really feel a painful bite let me tell you sometime about a tiger bite I sustained...oh yeah. Snake bites remind me of lil razor paper cuts. (non bruising and heal quick) ;o)
