Draconis' bloodwork is back...

Dragonlord69 Jun 20, 2005 09:03 PM

and it's NOT MBD, nor is it gout or pseudogout, which would've shown up on x-rays we took. The doc seems to think it might be some sort of systemic infection, and is sending the results of the bloodwork to Vienna, VA, where she says the docs there work on nothing else but lizards. It's sort of a "Club Med" for reptiles, and they are pretty much experts in the field. Based on their recommendations, I'll probably be giving Draconis a regiment of anti-biotics to try and reduce his swelling.

For those who read the last post, Draconis has developed swelling in his limbs, which started out on his back right toe, and has progressed into his forearms and one or two other digits. There's been no sign of injury except for a cut on the same foot as the swollen toe, which is why the doc suspects an infection, and which I have been swabbing consistantly with antiseptic swabs. He has slacked off some in his eating habits, but usually pigs out on supers and/or greens every two/three days. I put him in the window to bask, but when he's in his tank he either climbs into his hammock or in his log. I know he's not brumating since he just came out of one last January, so I know he's not feeling well.

You must be talking about Dr. Stahl. They're great over there....really know their reptiles and birds. You don't have a thing to worry about. I hope Draconis gets to feeling better soon!

And can't find a thing wrong with him. The only thing he seems concerned with is he might not be getting enough water. He and Dr. Khune (Draconis' vet here in Richmond) have recommended hydrating him more, which means at least two baths a week instead of one. He is also getting a copy of Draconis' x-rays shipped to him in Vienna, VA to look over, so hopefully he'll find something we missed. This is frustrating.
