Is my suris tail ok?

silenthill Jun 21, 2005 09:34 AM

My suri has a different shaped tail then my columbian. It just looks a little bulged. I have a tendency to be paronoid about things so I bet I am overreacting. What do you guys think?

Looks to maybe be a retained shed that was cutting into the tip of its tail. Or maybe a slight malformation. I'm not sure, should not effect your snake in anyway.

I thought it could be a retained shed but I used shedding aid and gently rubbed the area and nothing happened so I doubt it. She was like that when I got her, plus if your farther than a couple inches from it you can see anything.

by retianed shed, I think he meant it looks like the boa had a retained shed before, and this is what it looks like to me as well.
When boas have had retianed shed (usually at the tip of the tail)
that doesn't come off at first, then comes off later it
causes some tissue die off and the tails get that look.

The only thing I would worry about is if it starts swelling or getting bigger, then possibly it could be some sort of infection? But honestly it just looks like that boa had retained shed when it was younger which caused some slight tail damage. Shouldn't be anything to worry about... but I will always say as a disclaimed, best to get it checked by a vet to make sure.

So your saying that when she was younger she had a retained shed, and it fell off, but it caused her tail to look like that? It hasn't changed appearance in the 2months that Ive had her.

yes that is what I am saying.
I had a BRB, when I got him he had about 5 layers of old skin at the very tip of his tail... I finally got them all off with lots of soaks but he lost a few scales, it all grew back fine but the scales were a little diff and it had that 'pinched tip' look to it. I have seen the same thing in one of my baby albinos, only had one little layer of stuck shed on the very tip of the tail, I didn't even notice, but after the next shed the tail tip came off and it looks just like the suri tail (only on an albino hee).
I've seen the same thing in corn snakes as well. Sorry I don't have any good pics of it tho...
