So, I have a question.... About breeding and color

therebeldragon Jun 21, 2005 10:02 AM

Ok, so Athena is a pure bred Snow phase beardie and as friend of mine has a male 2 year old chris allen red beardie. If the two were to breed, would I get Pink beardies?

a snow dragon is just a hypomelanistic....if you mixed that with the chris allen red....you'd get "chris allen red X hypomelanistic" you'd get hyporeds! they'd probably look really good! do a search and see other people that have mixed the two....i'm sure someone has...and you'll see what to expect.

If she's a Hypo, wouldn't that mean she would have clear nails?

Im gonna take a stab at this one...someone please correct me if i am wrong....

Hypo just means lacking in dark pigment...hence the light white color of the snows.

Its the luecistic(sp?) dragons that have clear nails...

actually hypos CAN have clear nails, or they may not.

I thought that hypo was a recessive, if so, the dad would have to be a hypo carrier in order to have red hypo babies.

unless the chris allen red dragon had some hypo in its genes...all the babies would be HET hypo /red....most and probably all babies will have markings on them, ie, NOT hypo.

clear nails is a trait in hypo.....what ever someone tells you leucisitc don't really exist. what people are calling leucistic is really just a super white hypo and they most likely are calling it a "MARKETED leucistic". so asking the question if clear nails is a trait in hypos or leucistics....i'd have to say hypo since no one really has a true leucistic.
