Totally Ick!!!! ----

toshamc Jun 21, 2005 11:35 AM

I got an adult female a couple of weeks ago (CB). I tried feeding her a few days after she arrived - but she wasn't interested. I fed her again on the 17th she ate fine. Well this morning I pulled a partially digested rat out of her tub. Totally disgusting! I just about threw up myself. I've never had a snake throw up before and I've had a lot of sick animals pass my way so I'm at a loss. Before I call the vet and bring her in there I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen before? Is it a bacterial thing? Bugs? I know things like poor heating or over handling or stress will also make them regurge but that is supposed to happen before they start to digest not 3 days later (and none of those applies). She is thankfully still in quarantine and none of my other snakes are puking so I think I'm ok with them. Any thoughts?

I have seen this before in baby ball pythons, Usually a dose or two of flagyl will cure the problem. Now that is assuming all the cage conditions were correct. Sometime is the cage is too Hot/Cold they will regurge. Hope that helps, Thanks David

Just an idea but the only snake I've ever had throw up was when I fed my female ball 2 rats instead of one. It was the only time it happened so I know that's what it was. As a matter of fact, she won't even take 2 at a time now. Must have grossed her out as much as it did me. Just a thought. It probably is something else though since that was the first time you fed her. Good luck with it.

get her checked for roundworms,i purchased a pastel female that ate immediatly upon arrival (within the week) 2 days later a regurged nasty rat,so i rehydrated her and fed her 2 weeks later ate fine regurged again 2 days later to the t so i took her to the vet ,did a fecal and boooooom there were roundworm eggs, flagyled her and she doubled in size in 3-4 months
