Eastern Ribbon Snake Invenomation???!!!

LaHerper Jun 21, 2005 11:45 AM

This morning i was walking along the bayou as i usually do looking for herps, well this morning i found an eastern ribbon snake. As i was holding him he began to chew into my index finger and held on for about 2 minutes. After he let go and i walked back to my house my finger was itching pretty bad and then had some localized swelling (a whelp about the size of a dime). I think i've heard of this before but im not sure...and really caught my interest so i thought that I'd post it on here.

a little update...the swelling and itchings gone...but the forearm is extremely sore :-/ and after the first post was having slight tingling in my hand.... do hognoses or other mildly venomous rear-fangs cause these symptoms? lol i wonder if i can add this to my list of envenomatios ..haha

They have rear fangs like hognose.Just shaped differently. To call either one mildly venomous is a stretch.I have had the same reaction from a garter bite. They have to really chew on you to get any effect.
