green anole won't eat

zeitgeist Jun 21, 2005 03:01 PM

I have had this anole for the past month. I use a bark substrate, keep the cage between 50-70 percent humidity by misting the cage often, temps with a high on the mid-90s, in a 12x12x20 cage, with tons of limbs for climbing. I had been feeding my anole small crickets and then all of a sudden he stopped eating them. He used to punce on them when I would put one in the cage, now he lets one run around free. So I took out the cricket and got some waxworms, change of diet I thought. I got a little bowl, placed three worms in the bowl. He ate one. That was two days ago, he hasn't seemed to have eaten anything since then. I tried putting a small cricket in today and he has let in run free so far. He used to be going green during the day but he has been a darker brown with minor dots of green on his feet today. What do I do?

Anoles commonly go through periodic instances of decreased appetite. You might want to try an appropriately-sized flying insect like a moth. They have a difficult time resisting them. Just make sure it is from a pesticide free area away from roadsides (heavy metal contamination).

What kind of lights do you use? That'll make a huge diffrence.

I use a sunlight lamp (UV) during the day from 8am-7pm. I have a heat lamp (all lamps are overhead), but I am not using it because it is already hot in the room and case.

I switched up to wax worms for the past week and he had eaten a few but now seems to have gotten tired of them as well. I will try wax worms for a few more days and then get really small crickets to see if that will do anything.
