Never knew we had an oregon forum

I live near Coos Bay. Is there any other south Oregon coast people out there? I noticed some one asking about what hots are okay to keep. Oregon is pretty messed up on that issue. I do know as of a couple of years ago you could keep any Crotalus durissus, Atheris, gaboons and rino vipers but not puffs, some naja were okay but not kings? No north American venomous that are non native to Oregon. Getting info from odfw is not all that easy either. They have told me on more than one ocasion they would put me on their mailing list every year so I could be kept updated every year when they update their list but they never send me jack unless I call them on the phone. Hi Eric, I live in Myrtle creek. I just applyed for a permit to keep some N. American rattlesnakes and Copperheads about a month ago but have not herd back yet. I would like to make a trip to S.Nevada and Arizona maybe next year or this fall if I get a permit. What do you keep?

Hi Dean, what did the permit application consist of etc? I keep a number of north American crotalus (adamanteus, ruber, atrox etc.)and afew others all grandfathered in. I also keep naja, gaboon, and rino vipers along with a number of non vens. EricD

Hello, The permit app. is for all animals on the prohibited list.(birds,mamales,fish,reptiles.ect.) They are not concerned about the animals being venomous so much, just that they are housed properly and do not escape into our native habitat and that you have a plan to recapture them if they do get out. And what impact they would have on the native animales and their habitat.
I do understand the consern but the non controled and prohibited lists don't realy make much sents in that regard. I gess they had to start somewere.

Yea I understand their concerns but 9/10s of the reptiles that they are worried about would never survive here let alone reproduce. Their reason for not allowing puff adders is they say they resemble sidewinders but cerestes [horned vipers] which resemble them far closer than a freakin puff adder are legal, go figure. EricD

Oregon's laws are pretty stupid.. I keep amphibians as well as MANY other snakes, geckos, turtles, etc. .. and most of which were bought legally here in oregon, just last year.. cane toads, cuban tree frogs, green tree frogs..etc.. Are all now illegal to own...AND NON of which can survive the winter here.. It is illegal to spare the life of a bullfrog.. It must be turned over to be HUMANELY KILLED.. if there is such a thing..

Frankly, you can keep whatever you can get away with...lol. just be careful who you tell. Or.. do it the legal way and apply for permits and breeding/business lisense..
