Substrate

kap10cavy Jun 21, 2005 08:30 PM

What is everyone here using for substrate?
I am not trying to start a long drawn out thread, I am just curious.
I am a believer in dirt and sand mix but I keep hearing about tile, shelf liner, paper towelsand other easy to clean stuff.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

I recognize your user name...monitor forum? I too like to use a a combination of soil and a little sand for my larger desert lizards (I use shelf liner for my leo gecko, since it's just easier and he doesn't really care). I just moved my uro and bearded dragon into new enclosures and used all of my new topsoil up on the uro, so right now my bearded dragon is on non-stick rubber shelf liner. He doesn't really seem to mind. As long as it's something he can get good footing on, he's happy with it. I do intend on putting him on a thin layer of soil though. I don't like sand because it's just annoying and seems to get everywhere.

At the moment my beardie is on indoor/outdoor carpetbut its a pain to keep clean so im considering changing to shelf liner or something similiar

My juvenile beardie is on a plastic canvas/papertowel bottom. Cut the plastic canvas to the size of the bottom of the tank (tight fit) and then wrap paper towles over it and tap on the under side then press it into the tank. Clean it whenever its needed and when you feed crix they can't get under the paper towels.
