dumerils litter

snakeman97 Jun 21, 2005 09:32 PM

Last night my female dumerils (mother to my orange male) dropped three dead babies and four slugs. Two of the babies looked just like their orange father and the third was normal looking. I guess this proves the color trait is genetic. I do have another female bred by the orange male that should drop any day. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Bill

Sorry Bill... didn't intend it but this got long..

Good and bad news I guess- although I would have preferred none of the bad news. I will keep my fingers crossed on that next lady for you. Was this female that "went" the female that had shed last month in preparation for birth or a different one. That was the reason I was going to email you as I have found myself in a similar boat.

My lightest adult female that has produced others like her, and better, is really holding out on me. She is massive so I do not doubt that she is gravid. She has eaten one degu since she ovulated back on Jan 15. Her fifth month passed a week ago, which would have coinsided with the shed she had on the 3rd of June(pre-birth shed). She even looked a bit like she was going to "go", small curving of her lower body. All I've had since then was a small stool, which is the reminants of that Degu she ate a month ago. But I'm starting to think that this is the same mid-gestation shed that I have seen in my other female.

So, I was thinking that this is what your female, from your post at the beginning of the month, had done. Calling it a mid-gestation shed is somewhat of a misleading statement, as it isn't in the middle but 2/3rd's of the was through a dumerils pregnancy.

So back to the original question... is this that female or another one? Also, was their a pre-birth shed on this recent birth?

And... will you be taking any pictures of the stills? I would be very interested to view them.

Later Bill and good luck on the next one-

The female that just delivered is the mother of my orange dumerils. She shed sometime yesterday and delivered sometime between 11pm last night and 7am this morning. She delivered less than 24 hours after shedding. I did take one picture of the stillborns but i don't think it turned very good. After that the batteries went dead in the camera and I had to get to work. I will email you the picture when I can. As to the other female that shed on May 12th she has not yet dropped. She also is huge. The babies move up and down alot. Four or five days ago they really dropped but the next day they moved back up. She looks like a sack of potatoes. I will keep you posted. Bill
