Provent-a-mite treatment

MichHerper Jun 21, 2005 10:57 PM

I aquired a pair of freshly imported red tail green ratsnakes. They have ticks of course. And I was treating them with the nature chemistry Reptile Relief. Needless to say, I am not impressed. The ticks stayed alive and attached. So I picked up some provent-a-mite. I treated as directed, and I was wondering if anyone has had to do a second treatment with provent-a-mite or does just one usually do the trick?

Thanks,
jeff

If you have ticks (as opposed to mites) than they can be manually removed just as if you found one on yourself or your dog. Grab at the base and try to remove the mouth parts as well without pulling the body off the head. Definately take a stool sample to the vet, and I would also suggest getting a blood screen to look for overall health, and blood parasites after the snakes are settled in, rehydrated, and feeding well.

Good luck with your snakes, I love this species!
