Couple quick questions please, reptisun 5.0? Panters fruit= ?

Melisondra Jun 22, 2005 12:40 AM

Hey all, long time no post.
Just had some questions though, I was curious if there can be such a thing as too much UVB exposure? I bought a reptisun 5.0 (im pretty sure, that or reptiglo, had my brother return one since it was too small and cant remember which one I got in return...) ANYWAY... I have that strip light and also a basking UVB bulb (regular full spectrum bulb nothing special) I want to use on my little recue's cage. But would that be overkill on the UVB exposure? Should I just use a regular lightbulb for heat/basking?

Also, Since its fruit and veggie season, I was wondering if anyone offers their Panther Chameleons any fruits or veggies? I know my veiled loves strawberries but I wanted to dbl check before offering any to Knox.

Bout it here! Gonna drag the babies out tomorrow for some sun and pictures which I should hopefully be able to post tomorrow. I work second now so most of my day is spent inside at a candy factory (woofun!)

Toodles!

Hey there! What type of basking uvb bulb is it? Most don't emit that much uvb unless it's a mercury vapor. A Reptisun 5.0 and your other bulb should be fine. Depending on where your cham spends the most of his day, he's not going to be exposed to uvb the whole day as with the Reptisun 5.0 only reaches about a foot down from the bulb. I just have a incandescent bulb for heat and a separate fixture for uvb.

I haven't seen my panthers eat fruit or veggies, you probably could trick them into eating it but mine won't eat anything unless it's alive. Other panther owners might have had some success with it though.

And it's a reptiglo 8.0. She is still in her 20 gallon tank since I was worried about her ability to make it around a bigger setup still. She should be moving to her new home by friday though so I will wait before putting on the other lights.
Thanks again!
