Pink and Leucistic

turtlesox Jun 22, 2005 02:10 AM

Just wanted to post a picture of two of my turtle.
I keep them in 500 gallon tanks with other pinks,
leucisitic and regular colored alligator snappers,
of the same size.

Thanks for sharing, cool looking snappers!
Can you post a photo of these tanks?

The tanks are commercial plastic tanks with a drain at the bottom
for easy cleaning. I cut off the tops of the tanks about 18" down.
This part I use to raise plants, snails, feeder fish, and tadpoles in. The frogs love to lay their eggs in these so I always have tadpoles for my turtles to eat. Tank are about 3.5' X 4' X 4.5'
I have had the turtles in these tanks since they were only a few days old. When they were small I put 25 turtles in each tank. Now I only keep a few turtles in each tank ,depending on the size and type of turtles. I have more pictures in the photo gallery.

very nice, can you tell us a little about the history of your collection? Was the leucistic one pink at one time?

It's hard to say because I had some as hatchlings that had that cream color.
I have pinks that are still very pink. Then I have the light pinks that have a cream color on them but they are still mostly pink. Some of my creams are very light with very light shells or
golden shells. I will post more pictures of these turtles later in
the photo gallery.

This is one of my pinks with a golden shell.

That one looks a lot like mine. Where did you get yours?

I got all of my pink and leucistic from a friend in the South about
two years ago. My turtles didn't come from John Richards but he did
come down to see them about six months ago.
You have a great looking turtle. Has his color changed much?

Dewback Jun 23, 2005 11:25 AM

Here are some pics of mine. As you can see he hasn't changed much. The stripes on his face are more pronounced and he might be a little lighter, his shell seems to be getting lighter.
