ATB babies, help feeding....

TXDragons Jun 22, 2005 12:00 PM

Well last Thursday my female dropped some 13 babys on me, I wasnt expecting them, but she did. I got some really neat interesting colors, some halloweens, and some orange gardens, some candy cane (green/orange), and some odd ball jaguar striped (red/orange/green/black) babies. Anyhow there all doing good, kinda of snappy, but there all ok. Anyhow they havent shed just yet. But when they do, how do I go about feeding them? I have some geckos, but I dont want to actually feed them any lizards or frogs, I'd rather scent, but my question is what kinda of methods should I use? or do you all use? I'm gonna order some pinkies this week, just incase, hopefully I'll get a couple to go directly for mice.

What they often want are little shrimpy hopper mice. I call them "popcorn" mice because they look like little popcorn balls hopping around. You won't think the babies can eat them, but the motion and warmth seem to excite them. Just get the little shrimpy hoppers if you can - most mouse breeders have a few like that.

What always worked well for me is a hot fuzzie mouse, pinks are too small. You thaw them and offer them warm, for instance by putting them in warm water just before feeding. Dry quickly with a paper towel and let them have it. The heat really gets their attention and mine almost always fed within 2-3 weeks after their first shed.
good luck
