Okay here is a wierd question for you guys. MY tegu "purred" at my fiance' today. she said that when she was handling him he made a noise that sounded like purring. he was completely calm and happy no huffing or anything like that. and he only did it while she was handling him, which makes me believe its nothing health related. his heat and humidity are good, and he sheds fine. So whats the deal.

P.S. he has been spending time laying around with my cats lately, maybe they taught him something lol

Tegus are smart. I can see Rufus trying to bark like a dog. Purr like a cat, never.

seriously though does anyone know what this was. angry reaction. a happy reaction like a cat, possible something respiratory, flem... hell i dont know

from Rufus us usually telling meto leve him alone, don't wake him up. These are usually short snorts. When he really wants left alone he does the open mouth look at my tonsils thing. There may be some softer vocalizations that I can't hear but I don't know. He does this hunker down thing with his eyes closed when I rub and scratch his head and jowls and seems to enjoy it. When I scratch his back he will raise up like a cat when I scratch near the base of his tail like he wants more. I don't know if he is making any noise. I hope this helps.
