question about morphs ( i think i went off the deep end with this ? )

XtremeXteriors Jun 22, 2005 04:10 PM

when does a morph become a morph besides the obvious,I know this ? may sound stupid,it seems like people view morph as a specific genetic trait that is seen and/or that IS passed to the offspring and bred out.I have 2 fems that i posted pics of awhile back and i referred to them as very satinlike in color and blending and they definitly dont look like the "normal" BP i am used to seeing and people just said they were just really nice normals,so if thats the case and i bred them and that very distinctive satin trait is passed on be it co-dom or recessive will my snakes have become a morph or still just really nice normals

The problem is that ball pythons have so much natural variation within their species. Now, this really shouldn't be seen as a problem because its one of the many reasons ball pythons are so cool, but it does create problems for the people who have something obviously different. But there's more to it than just being "different." For many people, ball pythons are more than just a pet. You don't get a piebald, pastel, or platty just for the sake of owning a pretty snake. You're going to breed it too. Most people are going to breed to sell, so they can use the money to support their hobby, and if they make enough, to purchase the next morph to add to their collection.

Because of this, the true definition of a "morph" is a variation in color or pattern that is genetically heritable.

Basically, people want to know what they're paying extra for, and they don't want to "invest" in anything that isn't going to produce for them in the long run. So for the sake of preventing cofusion, if it ain't genetic, it ain't a morph....

Could you explain to me cofusion? What does it mean?
Thanks

I think cofusion is refering to old men who drink alone and pick on people.
