Biak outcrosses, which ones "work" the best?

5rings Jun 22, 2005 04:21 PM

I know people have been getting some very nice "designer" animals from Biak outcrosses. What are they most commonly outcrossing with? Do they use a Biak male and "another" female or vice versa? I realize of course that any combination has potential but I'd like to know which combination has had the best results.

your best bet for for "outcrosses" (any chondro to any chondro is and outcross) is an already established line.

I'm not sure if you have any designer/pedigree animals but alot of biaks were used in alot of their blood line. However this blood line does span generations.

2 good looking chondros will definaly up your odds to produce good looking offspring.

here is a link to this animals pedigree. As you can see the sire's line is long while the Dam's side stops at biak. Here is the animal mentioned.

I like to think Xtreme when it comes to Biak outcrosses. They seem to exhibit their traits quiet well when bred to "other" lines with equally impressive characteristics.

Here's a F1 Biak crossed with an "established" PNG (Zoo) line.

Since "Extreme" was capitalized I assume you are referring to a specific line. Who has it and is there some place I can view pedigrees and/or are there any pictures (besides your beautiful little guy).

Steve-
What I mean by exaggerating the XTREME was to hint at going "wild"....remember, you are the chef here and the animal's genetics and appearance are your ingredients and condements I like to be surprised by the complementing genetics between extremely different pheonotypes....the bloodline pedigree for my PNG male encompasses over 20 years and in these lineages are: blues, high yellows, almost complete yellows, naturally some green critters and many other wildly patterned colormorphs.

Your pedigree link didnt work. I would like to take a look at it can you email it to me. That animal is gorgeous. Now where do I get one and who is going to pay for it?

I do have 4 Biak types. Two are sub-adult and two are juvies. My subadults are probably 1-2 years out from being breedable but I wanted to get the mating set and ready. The only thing I have to cross them with are Arus and Sorongs (see my next post). I think the next step is to buy a designer female to cross with my best Biak male, who is a pretty fair looking animal so far.

Hi...Here is one of my Biak outcrosses. Its father is a Biak outcross himself, and its mother was a pure Biak, which she has passed away so there won't be any more from this line.
Hope you enjoy

That's what I am looking for. A very nice animal. Do you have any breeding plans for this one?

Greg Gibbs Jun 23, 2005 08:08 PM

He was breed last year and we got 8 babies, one which is a patternless solid black baby, very differant.
I will attach a picture of the girl I am going to try him with this year, plus I think we are going to try him with the same female as last year to try for another black, patternless lottle fella.
Take care
