Dirt----From the woods or the river bank or both?

Snakey Jul 14, 2003 02:30 PM

I have a quick question for those who use dirt as their substrate. I was planning to go down to a river through the woods and pull up some dirt for the enclosure I have now. The question is this, should I go close to the rivers edge and pull the dirt, sift it and put it in a tub or should I dig up some dirt in the wooded area and sift that? Or shoudl I mix the two?

Another thing I considered was digging up a patch of grasses so that i could grow some grass in the cage as well. From what I was told the monitor may dig it up.
Well, have to go finish sterilizing my enclosure.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks

This is going in a cage that is 7ft X 3 1/2ft X 30in tall. I was also thinking about using the soil and then using appx 25%playsand added the soil.
Thanks again...
