Impacted female

woodlyn Jun 23, 2005 01:53 AM

I have a female who seems to be constipated- cannot deficate.
Is there anything I can give her to help get "things moving normally again?" I have been hydrating her in a warm sink , but that does not seem to be helping.

Try a few drops of mineral oil through an eye dropper. Also, you can try feeding her squash and pumpkin, as both of these are natural laxatives. How long's it been since she went?

When you post this type of appeal it is better if you tell us more information; age, how log has condition existed, tank setup, food supply, etc..

AlteredMind99 Jun 23, 2005 05:46 PM

yeah, more info is definately needed.

what size tank?
what are the temps, high and low?
What is the substrate?
How long has it been since she pooed?
Is she still eating?
What have you been feeding?

There are many reasons for constipation...i.e impaction, parasites, urate stones...etc Without more info its difficult to tell

Warm water soaks help, so does pumkin, squash, and mineral oil, but if she doesnt go soon i would take her to the vet

Below is a link to a guide for helping dragons to pass an impaction that has worked most of the time with young dragons. But you also need to know what is causing it and correct that situation.

This is what we have used for rescues and many dragons sent to us that were having problems and it has worked most the time. The one time it did not we had to have the dragon have several ememas at the vet, but the vets offices in this area now also use this routine first to try to get them to pass impactions prior to invasive procedures that can stress them so much,

Mineral oil did the trick the first time I used it.
She has not started eating yet but there never was any paralysis and she is kept on newspaper, regularly soaked in warm water and at the correct temperature for an adult beardie. If she doesnot start eating in the next few day I will take her to the vet(UW-Exotic Animal clinic)
