Hello-
The only thing that seems somewhat but not totally unique to uromastyx is that sometimes the need quite a bit of time to acclimate. When they are small this is really nerve-racking. Are you getting him from one of the main breeders? A quality hatchling / juevnile makes all the difference in the world. There have been some sale posts lately where the uro for sale does not look very healthy.
Another bit of a suggestion. If the uro is a hatchling cut up the food really small or food processor....
Good luck and welcome to this incredible forum. There are really helpful people here!

Don't sweat it, we've all done it, and some of us, still do!
By the way, great looking uro!

I got him from Lindsey Pike off Kingsnake.com.. Look at the picture he has up, holding one of the babies. Even my wife could not say no, to that adorable face. Should be getting him in a couple of hours delivered to my front porch. Have his cage set up, just have to get some food for him. That is a great picture you have there!! I feel very welcome on this forum. Thanks!!

I just got the little guy an hour ago. I was surprized just how little he is. I had a big cage setup with sand, logs, rocks and realized he is just too small for this setup. So I got a 10 gallon aquarium with a screen top and put paper towels and a chunk of cork and a hide rock for him. A heat lamp sitting on top of the screen. Is this setup OK?

a 10 gallon might be too small, it will be hard to get a proper gradient. you want him to be warm but he needs to be able to escape the warmth too. if you really need something and not have it too expensive, rubbermaid tubs do a great job as a temporary hold congrats

Thanks! You are the second person to tell me that. I may be OK though. What I did was stick a thermometer at the other end of the tank and waited for an hour. Measured 83 degrees. I think having the top covered with half inch wire screen, most of the heat just goes up out of the cage. Also the little guy has stayed right under the light. (150W bulb, measuring 115 degrees at the point he is sitting). This setup is just temporary, as the cage I HAD setup was for something I thought was going to be a bit bigger in size, plus it has sand, which I understand is a no-no for very young uros. I really appreciate your input and I agree, I need to get something a bit longer or the gradient consideration.
Again, thanks!!

Sounds like you know the requirements.
They will grow fast once they get acclimated.
I got my first one(who just laid 26 infertile eggs) from Lindsay 4 years ago.
He is (as are some of the other established breeders) a tremendous source of help and knowledge.
Good luck with your uro.
