Caiman Lizards?

groundskeeper24 Jun 23, 2005 03:16 AM

I've seen these guys at a couple of zoos. Not sure whether or not they're teids?, Lacertids? Anyway they are green w/ red heads and seem to be about 24-36 inches on avg. I've read that they exist on a specialized diet composed almost entirely of snails. They also are semiaquatic if I recall correctly. I've never seen one for sale while lurking on the classifieds or the net, save a pair in Germany. That's why I thought it was strange when I read an interview with proexotics' Robyn where he said many had been recently imported. This had to have been within the last yr or two b/c he also discussed the closing of his retail store. Where are they? Anyone here keep them or know anyone who does? How do you cultivate the appropriate types of snails? Sorry for the long post. So many questions, so little time.

Indeed.. Amazingly difficult to keep due to their mainly being WC and stressed not to mention their diet.
They are teids..
And over all my favorite lizards.. I've always wanted a Caiman and had plans of getting one once I got out of California.. but a CaimanLizard works wonders, a well kept specimen is gorgeous and amazing.. they look just like Caimans from the neck down.. they're amazing creatures, and I can't wait to acquire a few despite the costs.. some people save up for their favorites.. Lacy Monitors... Leucistic Ball Pythons.. but a Healthy pair of Dracaena would do wonders for me
