Looking of plans

amber_marshall75 Jun 23, 2005 11:28 AM

I would like to build a set of shelves to use sweater boxes to house our ever growing collection of cornsnakes and i wanted to see if anybody had any plans for something like that. Please email me @ amber_marshall1975@sbcglobal.net. It would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Amber

Do you mean a lidless rack?

In that case...

I want to build some type of rack/shelving system for my corn snakes. Something that looks like a book shelf and then I can use plastic tubs to put them in. It is costing me WAY to much $$ to buy tank every time we get a new snake.

I would build a lidless rack. If you have Menards in your area, I recommend some of their bull-nosed, oak or pine melamine shelving.

You can use oak-laminated plywood for the sides or more of the melamine.

I would absolutely switch to a lidless rack for a growing cornsnake collection. Many keepers regret not doing so eariler.

What is a "Menards"? And I still don't know how to build it. Right now I have:
1.0 Reverse Okeetee-Adult
1.0 Aberrant/Motley Orange Albino Multi Het-Adult
0.1 Red stripped Multi Het-Adult
0.1 Snow-Adult
0.1 Hypo Multi Het-Yearling
0.1 Amel-Baby

All corns.

And I am picking up 3 more Hets 1.2 that is a breeding trio. So buying tanks is adding up.

Plus I have my adult females breeding and I am going to have to have something to put babies in to. I would rather build something myself. (Yes I took shop class.) But I need some sort of plan to by the pieces that I need to build it.

>>What is a "Menards"?

Menards is a midwest home improvement center. If you don't live in the midwest you probably don't have one. You can just use regular melamine coated particle board and then glue real wood moulding to the cut edges for a nice, finished look.

>>And I still don't know how to build it.

You won't find any exact plans on the web. You can find several sources that you can modify for your own needs.

I build my racks very similar to what is show at arbreptiles.com

However, I use spacers similar to what you see at Finegtps.com

In either case you'll need to modify the plans for your needs.

Will Home Depot or Lowe's work? Any suggestions on where to by clear tubs cheap?

Thanks for all your help. You seem to know everything.

chris_harper2 Jun 24, 2005 12:33 PM

Home Depot or Lowes should have standard white melamine. If you want to have this cut for you, I suggest looking up a cabinet shop.

Either way, real wood trim can be applied to the cut/exposed edges for a finished look.

Regarding clear tubs, I used to have a link for the clear storage tubs from Cambro. I believe I lost the link when our computer crashed. Try google "cambro polycarbonate", in quotes.
