Boy, 10, critical after tiger, lion attack

MINNEAPOLIS - A 10-year-old boy was attacked and critically injured by a tiger and a lion that were among a dozen large animals kept by a businessman, authorities said.

Russell LaLa of Royalton was injured Wednesday when he and his father visited Chuck Mock, who authorities say is the owner of 11 large cats and a bear. The boy was in critical condition Thursday at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Authorities said Mock opened the door of a cage and a tiger pushed its way out to attack the boy. When the owner was pulling off the tiger, a lion bit Russell, Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said.

Mock, the owner of Best Buy Auto near Little Falls, did not immediately return telephone calls to his home and office Thursday.

Wetzel said Mock has registered 12 animals with the state - 11 large cats and one bear. The sheriff said he thought Mock kept the animals as "a novelty."

"I don't think anyone should have them," Wetzel said. "Just because you're legal doesn't mean you're safe."

Sometimes I wonder if some states with both "permit" systems and
anti exotic animal keeping agendas allow some "bad eggs" to get by in the permitting process PRECISELY to create an excuse for ban legislation.

As you know if you read any of my political posts before my trust for government is LESS than that for inexperienced hot keepers. Also this is still the only way to explain Michael Jackson's dangerous private zoo at Neverland. That he hires "experienced" beople to get the permits and mantain the animals means NOTHING to me. Those animals are on HIS PROPERTY and in his possession. Therefore under the California law as I read it HE should have to be the one to have the required experience for the permits, not some hired "expert".

While I agree with the general gist of these posts, I have to disagree with you MJ comment. Don't get me wrong, I hate the guy, but does one have to be a zookeeper to own a zoo?

Say what you want but I believe that the permits for "Neverland" were granted by corrupt pantheistic "Deep Ecology" PETA, Humane Society of the United States oriented Fish and Game officials who are looking upon "Neverland" as the source of the escape or mauling they can use to ban ALL "exotic" keeping in California.

If you really READ the websites of the "Animal Rights" and "Deep
Ecology" movement like PETA, The HSUS, Animal Liberation Front, Earth Liberation Front, SHAC, etc. you will see that the "public safety" is really NOT the concern behind these anti herp and anti hot laws. RELIGION is, a radical fundamentalist pantheistic religion that can be as deadly as the as the fundamentalism behind 9-11 if we keep on giving in to it because many of its adherants believe in mass human elimination as the only solution to "Animal Rights" and "Deep Ecology" related problems.

I try to steer clear of organizations such as those, the only one that I have found that I find respectable is the GGLF (Garden Gnome Liberation Front).
