Borneo Feeding Problem

Chris_B Jun 23, 2005 02:28 PM

Hey-
My Borneo doesn't seem to want to eat lately. At first he would only take live, but I kept trying F/T every once in a while, and one day he showed some interest so I left it in front of him and he ate it. So he's eaten F/T about 6 times now without any problems. I recently switched to rats, and he took the first one I gave him with no problem, but now he doesn't show any interest at all. I tried scenting it, washing it off, leaving it in over night, dipping in chicken broth, nothing seems to spark his appetite. The temps and humidity are good, same as they've always been. I haven't handled him since the first time he refused food. It's been a little over 2 weeks since he's eaten. Should I just keep trying, or should I get him a live rat? I don't want to since I know he'll take F/T now, but I'd like for him to eat something. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks, -chris-

Since it hasn't been that long since he last ate, I would just keep offering f/t to him for a couple more weeks. I have had borneos that didn't want to switch from mice to rats. Guess if he goes to long, I would give him a live rat pup next time. Best of luck with him, however you do it. jody

Two weeks is nothing.Make him want to eat that f/t.After about a month then give him a live one.Sometimes I had to do the same, take f/t for a while then go a month, give him live and back to f/t.He'll get there for you in no time since he's already taken it.Good luck.
