Took Luca outside

uromagnus Jun 23, 2005 02:51 PM

Put him in a good size 18" tall rubber container.

he kinda froze for awhile and then ran around and looked very nervous.

he was not enjoying the outing and I was totally freaked that he might jump out so within 10mins he was back inside.

wondering what others do with going outside and how the Uro reacts. thinking that the good of the sun might outweigh the Uro being stressed but am not sure.

also... what do you use as a top so the Uro can not jump out (if they can jump that high)and still let the good rays get through.

thnx, Mike

others may not agree with me but i kind of terrorize them with sunshine. i put them in tub with a screen top for 15-20 minutes. hugo seems not to care but helga gets freaked out by it but they are daytime animals and natural sunshine is good for them.

My boyfriend has a lizard leash that he uses when he takes his uro outside. He just hooks one end to his beltloop or something else and is always right next to him to reasure him. Kupa loves it; he runs around often looking up at the sun and basking.

my uro is still too small for a leash and too young, i think.

I actually just took the mali's outside at separate times on wednesday. Both of them were calm for a minute or two then they started running around.

I used this pet carrier we got for when we went to florida and picked up an african gray for my mom. I put a handtowel I bought for drying them off after bath's in the bottom, and put another on top. I opened the top and put my hand in that way they would feel safe. So they ran to my hand after the first minute.

It takes some getting used to in my opinion.

So I'm going to start my new guy off with introducing him to the outside by looking out my bedroom window. Then the pet carrier and going through the house.

I use a lizard leash with Archie, I am not sure he likes it all that much anymore, when he was younger and spent a lot of his time on my shoulder wandering around he would bask in the sunlight and enjoy it, now he runs around and tries to burrow in random places.

I am hoping to get mosca used to traveling around more as he gets older. I agree with you though, when they are young, they are much too hyper and jumpy, and FAST, lol.

Luca is awfully lucky to have such a loving parent!

well... i took him outside again today for about 6 hours. he stayed in the hide for most of the day with just his head peeking out. he came out after a few hours. for a top screen i had an unused firplace screen. i think the holes are too close together to let the proper rays through but it was a perfect fit and figured any sun is better then none at all. when i put him back in the house he ran right into his hide. i am not sure if it is good to terrorize the poor little guy trying to get him used to trips outside or just to keep him inside all the time.

any suggestions anyone?
