Varanus caerulivirens

Nakor Jul 14, 2003 03:07 PM

Hy,

can someone give me information concerning Varanus caerulivirens. As far as I know there are only 5 left in Germany. I can't find anything about this monitor. Did they change names?

I'd really be thankfull for some help.

Nakor

Hello,

I had 1.1 for 2 years, loaned them to a friend for breeding and there was a mishap, so no breeding there; another friend of mine in AZ has a pair of younger ones that came in as V. indicus, and a third friend I know has 1.0 back east - they're infrequent, but here.

For literature references, I have alot more on V. cerambonensis, but for V. caerulivirens I have the formal description paper, a paper from Reptiles & Amphibian Hobbyist Nov. 1999:29-32, and a third 1 page paper - not a whole lot, but I do have pics of them in the wild and some anecdotal field observations of them there too....

Good Luck,
mbayless

Hy,
So could you send a pic to me? Couldn't find one in any book. Just heard some rumours about them and importing to Europe is strictly prohibited as far as I know. But some friend of me keeps 1,2 and I'd really like to know more about them.

Thanks a lot for you help,

Nakor

Hello Nakor,

I have a photos of my animals, but there is a recent publication, in english, that has a listing of ALL living Varanids, and alot of pics of wild Varanus in it, including V. caerulivirens...Zoologische Verhandelingen, Leiden. I posted the full mailing address on Ssnakes.com varanid forum and on Varanus.nl forum....
Good Luck,
mbayless

Hy,

thanks a lot for your help. People in Germany seem to guard information on those monitors like dog is bone. no idea why!
hopefully Daniel will help me.

Thanks a lot again.
