New Shell Rot and/or Fungus

RavonTUS Jun 23, 2005 09:00 PM

Greetings,

I need your help once again. It appears the "ruff" spots on my RES are beginning to turn into shell rot. I thought since the scuttles underneath looked OK and the old ones were falling off he may be OK.

As I closely examine him today I notice a hole just a little smaller than an eraser on a pencil.

See... http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.php?photo=220503

I stopped by the pet shop and picked up some stuff called ZooMed Repti Turtle Sulfa Dip. The box says it's for Bacterial Diseases and aid in the prevention of secondary fungal infections.

So, what is FIRST fungal?? Since my RES already appears to have it, am I wasting my time and money?

I guess what makes me ask these questions is the trail pack of Reptisafe - Water Conditioner for Turtles that came in the box. Turtles don't take special water!

Oh well, please let me know what you think.

-Ravon

P.S. Because I know you'll ask...20g tank, UBV, Basking lamp & spot (86-90 degrees) , and clean water (76-80 degrees).

Ravon, here is a pretty good article regarding shell rot www.anapsid.org/shellrot.html. I've never used that sulfa block and have heard that it's not any good but I really can't say for sure.
