I would tend to avoid it. I definately wouldn't add it. City water comes out of the tap with either chlorine or chlorimine at 0.3 ppm to 1.8 ppm. Chlorimine is more of an annoyance since it doesn't evaporate after a day like chlorine does.

I am looking for a solution to keep the water clear and clean in a few outdoor ponds. Any other suggestions then?

Well, it depends on what is making your water unclear. Can you be more specific? Are you trying to get rid of algae that turns the water a certain color? do you have a lot of wood or leaf litter in the pond? Is the water cloudy? What kind of filter do you have on it now or were planning to use?

There is a lot of micro algae that makes the water green. Also there will be 6 pond that I want to filter/heat together so it would also with disease.

My first choice would be UV but it's too costly for the size of a unit I would need. I'm also thinking of ozone as a choice. I know of several people who uses a low amount of chlorine in the ponds at all times for these reasons.

I don't really know what to tell you. I was going to recommend a UV filter, but you have a lot of ponds to filter. I will ask some people this weekend.
