Coco fiber and water

spyderx05 Jun 23, 2005 11:30 PM

I have a concern about the cocos fiber i'm using as substrate. I have a waterfall, but did not use the false bottom setup. I don't like the look. So I put down a layer, about .5 in. to 1 in. high of larger flat rocks 2x2 inch or so, then a 25 lb bag of gravel. The water level was below the rocks, and then I added the cocos fiber. After that, I raised the water level a little, and a little water is now touching the very bottom of the fiber. Its only a very little bit, but enough for the fiber to soak up the water. The ground near the "pond" is wet to the touch as well as the lower areas, and moist at the higher spots. I know these frogs come from the RAIN forest, so i'm pretty sure they'll be fine, but will it mess up the moss or any other of the plants? thanks

i'll get a pic if I can

It should be fine for the darts. Nearly all of my tanks have saturated soil in the lower portions. Whether your plants will do well in it just depends upon the type of plants. Java moss will thrive in saturated areas and other tropical mosses will probably do O.K. if they have enough light. Do you have some higher ground built up? It would be nice to see your pictures.
