An interesting little guy...

ginevive Jun 24, 2005 12:18 PM

Have you ever come across this in your Normals? This little guy has a slight blackback look, and banded charactieristics; BUT the thing is, the spots that are along the spine, that are Usually yellower and lighter in Normals, are the same shade as the side markings. See what I mean? This guy also has an olive-ish shade that is different than my others. What would you breed him to?

"What would you breed him to?"
A female ball python?

All kidding aside, he is a very pretty snake and is probably just a normal, but if his color is a polygenic thing, it would look great if bred into a ghost or pastel in my opinion.

Nice snake.

I was just wondering what that means.

Polygenic is an inheritable character that is controlled by several genes at once. Unlike something like the common "morphs" you see out there, traits like high yellow or non-genetic black back aren't always as obvious but can be line bred. Pastel boa's are a good example of line breeding for a certain phenotype (look).
