I'm going to travel around thailand for the next 40 days, and it could be nice to see some reptiles in their natural enviroment (we dont have many in Denmark hwere i live *G*)
Does anyone know if there is someplace where they arrange tours taking you out to search for reptiles?
I was thinking about asking at one of the numerous "snake-Shows" if they could take me out searching....

Any experiences about herping in Thailand (most northern regions and SE regions) would be greatly appreciated

Thanks )

Jakob

Do a little research before you go and have more than one plan.
You'll be there for 40 days, so in that time you'll make friends and meet alot of people. Thats where some of your best contacts will be found. I'm sure there are many people willing to take you out for a fee as well.
Ask around on other forums about those who have been there before. Some good roadriding spots and area's may pop up.

Visit local serpentariums and roadside zoo's. Chat with the employee's and the next thing you know...........you'll be herping with someone who knows the area. That's how I did it in Costa Rica.
In Costa Rica, primary rainforest is either privately owned or a
national park so inside info is a plus. A friend may know a landowner and can help get you on the land.

See if you can get a good map of the area as well.
Check on the net and visit a map store for a good map.
Good luck, Kenny Sharrocks

If I were you I would go to the snake farm in Bangkok. There are herpetologists and scientists there who could surely point you in the right direction.

Where are you going? I was in Phuket and Pateya Beach in the late 80's and early 90's (Navy). My favorite place on Earth. Most of the rainforest hills are good for large pythons, cobras and a host of mammals. The easiest herping is right out in the tourist areas. Kids walk around with huge pythons and polaroid cameras charging you a couple bucks to take a picture with the snake.
Have fun and tell Mammasan I said hi.

Go the the venomous reptiles forum and contact Al (phobos). He went to the Thia snake forum that produces all the antivenom for the area and had a great time. I'm sure you would also get lots of herping contacts from there too. Have lots of fun!
