Can I use Mercury Vapor bulbs sold in stores?

Can I use Mercury Vapor bulbs sold in Lowe's or Home Depot for my beardie tanks for UVA/UVB lighting? How do they compare to other mercury vapor bulbs specifically designated for reptiles?

No you can't.

well I suppose technically you could, but the MVB's sold in home reno stores are made of glass and don't project uv... although you can use them as a heat source. The ones designed for reptiles are made of quartz or something similar
