Easy way to distribute crix?

mike777777 Jun 24, 2005 05:59 PM

I was just wondering if anyone has a simple way of distributing crickets to multiple cages. I currently have 5 adult Cresteds in a melamine rack system. I usually just cut the corner of the bag of crickets which I have purchased and "sprinkle" them into the cages. But, I find that it is difficult to control the amount of crickets given to each animal. Has anyone tried a "Cricket Keeper"? Any other ideas? Thanks.

I just put some paper towel rolls in the cricket bin and just shake them into a bag with dust, then I shake them and then they just run out of the bag into the cages.

10-20 toilet paper rolls in the cricket container to get them out of that, then i put them into a peanut butter jar. shake it with the powder and pour them out. no easy exact way to do it that i'm aware of.

I keep my crix in a 10 gal tank w/some egg crates. When I need some, i shake them out into a plastic cup. I feed them the sandfire cricket diet, I don't dust them every time. When I do dust them, I just sprinkle a little dust into the cup. From there I can just shake a few into the tanks. That's how i do it.

I'm now using one of the Smith and Wesson cricket guns. i feel they work great, although they are a little expensive. i got mine for around 350.00 last year. i have the 750 model that allows me to shoot out a single cricket, full auto, but best of all it has the 3 shoot burst mode which is really usefull for counting how many crickets for each container. a trio i would shoot 4 times on three shot burst allowing 12 crickets into the cage. the only problem i have is that it doesnt dust the crickets for me. i still have to get one of my midget slaves to do that by hand unfourtanelty. also the other problem ive encounterd is that the noisethe gun makes when firing can be a bit loud and possibly upset the geckos, although mine dont seem to mind. however the loud noise did upsetmy neighbor. a few shots right at her window and splat dead cricket mess for her and no more complaints for me.
best of luck in your cricket distribution problem - vicious

But why dont you just get the silencer on the end so it doesnt frighten the geckos? GAAWWD.

I was wondering do they have like a hopper that I can shoot like 12 crickets per shot (maybe like a 1000 model ???) I was also wondering where to buy them (I looked on LLLReptile and Big Apple but no luck) are the dwarfs included if so how much is shipping because some of those dwarfs are fat and I don't like payin to have his fat lazy a#S shipped to my door. Do these things run on like a battery, CO2, fairydust? Do they hurt the ozone or are they eco-friendly.

Any Help would be great.

Thanks Derek
