mailing beardies

frogggy Jul 14, 2003 04:28 PM

Hi! I live in Calif. and have been trying to find a way to mail baby beardies. I'm told that Fed Ex and Air Borne don't do reptiles. The USPS can, but may take up to 3 days. In order to use UPS I'm told I must have a daily account which costs. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
Gloria

i dont think they know what they are talking about, they say they only ship certian types of live animals, if you call some they say they ship harmless reptiles.. i duno.. i had to have one of my dragons shipped to me labelled "turtle" heheh.. funny lookin turtle she was...those that ship airborne i think label it harmless reptile, i have never had a problem and have had 3 dragons shipped to me via airborne express, they are always great....

It depends on who you talk to, some people told me Airborne will not ship live animals. I know that's not true since I am getting a leopard gecko via Airborne next week. Same goes with FedEx, I am getting animals tomorrow via FedEx. The post office will accept reptiles but you must ship via Express Mail and drop the package off at the post office in the morning if not it will not get to the destination the next day. Mark the box "harmless reptile". UPS will ship reptiles and you don't need to have an account with them. Just go to their web site and you can even print you own airway bills off you computer and charge the shipping to a credit card.

Shipments of tortoise, frogs, non-venomous insects, live fish, and crustaceans only under the following conditions:

a. Such shipments must be boxed or crated so as to prevent escape, insure safe transportation with ordinary care in handling, and assure protection to any person handling the shipment.

b. Compliance with all laws, ordinances or government rules and regulations governing the transportation of live creatures.

c. Airborne Express assumes no liability for the conduct or act of the animals to themselves or to each other, such as biting, kicking, goring or smothering.

d. Sender must provide a letter absolving Airborne Express of all liability for loss, damage, or delay of such shipments.
