Always being an elapid-oriented person when I was big into hot keeping, I never really made it to this forum often. I officially got out of hots mid last year, but a month or two ago I decided I wanted a nice looking snake that was fairly low-maintencance and made a good display. Obviously, the Bitis vipers first came to mind. I decided to get a gaboon, which was a species I've always respected and admired, and also thought about getting a rhino to go along with it. So a few weeks ago, I bought an '05 female WA gaboon and an '05 male rhino from Glades. I'm raising them together, and though I'm not going to put any major effort into getting them breed, I figure eh, if they do, they do. I certainly wouldn't mind having a few hybrids pop out, but I'm not going to fret over it if they don't breed. I never thought I'd really like vipers this much, but I must admit, I'm really enjoying these guys. They are much less stressful to mess with than the elapids I used to keep. These are probably going to be the only hots, and only snakes actually, that I keep for quite a while, but I think they'll be great display animals. Enjoy the photos.

Ha! I knew you could not stay away from HOTS! Nice animals, also nice they are with somebody who'll take good care of them too.

I keep mostly Vipers and few Elapids just for those reasons Chance..or is that Charles? Low stress on the keeper although when my Gabby is out, at 4 ft long she can move surprisingly FAST.

Cheers!

Thanks for the compliments Al. The lack of something venomous around here was starting to...get to me I suppose. Once I got to thinking about how nice it would be to have a gaboon around as a display animal though, it was done. I got the rhino along with her because 1. I like them, 2. they had a good deal on them at Glades it seemed, and 3. if they decided they wanted to make little hybrid babies, I wouldn't mind at all

And yeah yeah, at least they semi-correctly quoted me in that article, even if they did somehow butcher my name. I received something from them a couple days ago talking about how they can't really take the time to do in-depth research into the stories they post, which is understandable. They sent that e-mail to three of us who wrote in, and I thanked her for following up on it. I think they're going to publish a new article explaining their reasons for the misinformation. At least they're trying...more than I can say for most newspapers.
