Temerature control in a vivarium

dougl4422 Jun 25, 2005 12:06 PM

I have a 30 gallon terraium with expanded clay pellet substrate. I an using a 65 watt compact flourecent light on it. I have a small external canister filter that pumps over some driftwood to make a waterfall.

I plan on housing dart frogs in it. I have been monitoring the temperature and humidity. The humidity stays high enough but the temperature can get up to about 85. Ive read that, for dart frogs, the temperature should be kept between 70 and 80.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the temperature below 80? Should i modify my light to incorparate a small fan to try to keep it cool?

I would just take the light father away until it's between 70-80. Where is your light, on the vivarium or in it or somewhere else.

The light is about an inch above the glass top on the vivarium. The light also has a piece of acrylic over the bulb area.
