60 gal plexi / What kind of turtle would you recommend?

sdsurfrider Jun 25, 2005 02:30 PM

I'm trying to do some research on an adequate turtle for this size tank, I presume the smaller the better so that it would be able to enjoy the full size of the tank. Are there any that are mostly aquatic, where is a good place to find information, without having to buy a specific book (I will save this for when I have fully decided on the species I would like)?

Hello.

I would say either a mud or musk. They will only get to be about 4'' long full grown. I would do some research before deciding on any turtle. This website has some good information on turtles and if you use any search engine you could find good information.

Is this a "tall" or "long" variety? Can you supply the dimentions? Muds and musks prefer shallow water, the sliders, painteds, cooters, terrapins, ect. prefer deep water. This is rectangular, right?

As Katrina posted, it will depend on the dimensions of the tank but assuming it's rectangular any of the ones suggested would be fine. I'd lean toward a painted over a slider since they don't get as big. A book wouldn't be necessary as there ton's of good information online. You also have to beware that many books are outdated and have misinformation when it comes to turtles.
