I need help with this. [Care question]

exoticcollector Jun 25, 2005 03:39 PM

I was wondering if this setup would be ok for a brb or prb. I have a rubermaid contaner in a 29 gallon tank with a submersible power fliter in the contaner. With a glass top on the 29 gallon tank. The back plastic piece of the glass top has 3 rolls of holes on it to vent air. if i never mist the tank the hummidity stays about 72%. When i mist the tank it's around 94%. One live plant in there as well. I have a undertank heater and a 60 wat sunglow heat light. The temp is about 78 at night and 85 in the day.

Sounds Ok, but try to keep humidity up as high as possible, also try not to allow many fluctuations in the humidity either, but IMO a 29 isnt large enough for an adult, a baby to juvinile would work well but would need to upgrade later, Also you dont want to have to big of a bowl in the tank because brbs LOVE to soak which can lead to skin conditions

hope this helped,
James

Steven,
....That temperature is too hot. Try it without the sunglow heat light and instead of misting and using the powerfilter try using a damp substrate. Misting with a hand pump mister actually puts very little water into the cage. Instead of the effort of misting often and the complication of the power filter just dump several ounces of water onto the substrate occasionally.

I use a 2 gallon pump style bug spray from home depot, I seems to work Really well

RB-Breeder,
....Those pump garden sprayers are handy. I use one when adding water in shoeboxes and other small cages and when cleaning glass cage fronts sometimes. I think it probably sprays out 10 or 20 times more water than a hand squeeze sprayer.

I'm kinda late answering, but I would suggest dropping the temps at least 5 to 8 degrees. For babies the humidity will need to stay consistantly higher than 72%....in fact I'd shoot for 90%. I think you'll need to watch to see if the vibrations from your filter seem to affect your Rainbows. I can't really tell if mine are bothered by vibrations, however they are not exposed to any on a constant basis.

Hey
The power filter does not make any vidrations. It's very weak. It just moves the water to create humidity. My emerald does not mind it at all. thank you for the help.
