Withholding stools? (Rack kept leos)

XSamX Jun 26, 2005 03:54 AM

A few months ago I moved all my leos into a rack system. Each has his or her own 15 quart sterilite with two hides a piece. The unit is controlled by a ranco and is 90 on the hot end all the time. There is is nice thermal gradient the moves down to 76 on the cool end. Everything seems to be fine, all my leos are eating well. I went nuts with the soldering iron to provide enough air holes for proper ventilation. The thing is, I've noticed that all of my leos seem to defecate less than they used to. Some of my adults will hold out for up to four days at a time yet they all are plump as hell, eat like pigs, and show no signs of abnormal behavior. They've all been checked recently too. Any ideas as to what is going on? Think it has something to do with the rack? thanks.

If no one else can help than conduct an expirement. Move half your leos from the rack to the exact way they were before they were put in a racking system. Monitor all the leos and see how their doing, if the ones that arent in the racking system show signs of doing better than either move them all back to how they were or change the racking system to be exactly like the non racking. If that made sense then try it out.

Did you use to keep more than one leo per cage??? If so, that might explain why you do not see as much waste..... Putting a leo in a rack will have no influence on their stool production....

They were all housed seperately either in individual ten gallon tanks or partitioned fifteen to twenty gallon tanks. I guess its just the few adults I've got that will hold out for up to four or so days that concern me. By the way, am I crazy or is a fifteen quart per leo sterilite adequate enough space for each leo? thanks.
