Beware of Crows When Turtles Are Outside

Ameron Jun 26, 2005 09:56 AM

My small Painted Turtle Roosevelt was only about 4 inches long. I had him in a clear bowl yesterday for a few minutes to get direct sunlight. He suddenly disappeared!

We looked all over the parking lot, he was not found. I could not believe how he got out of the bowl with its high sides. Later I realized that he did not. A crow had swooped down and got him.

If your turtle is smaller than 6-7 inches, NEVER leave them alone outside. There are even more dangers than you realize.

R.I.P, Roosevelt. You were so dearly loved...

Are u sure it diden't just excape. I have had my turtles out in a pond with a big wall around it. Well 2 of them have gone missing and I can't find them. At first I thought it was a crow as well. Untill I noticed the 3rd one missing, He somehow got out of the pond and was walking on the grass. I think he climbed on a rock, got on a plant and somehow pushed him self over the wall. Look around your yard you never know.
